Letter to my Little Man at 17 mos. (3-4-09): What a horrid mama I am, not writing to you in ages! Tonight will be short. You are an amazing little creature! You've begun getting so frustrated with things! It's hilarious, but I know it must be so hard for you! You want something, but don't have your words so you get frustrated and do this short yell! I try so hard not to laugh but it's too funny. If I don't go with you where you want me to go, again, you get so frustrated and do this short yell! You've begun climbing. You walk up to our table chair, reach so far to grab the other side and then just sort of lift your body onto the chair! It's made for some fun (and terrifying) times for your parents, let me tell you! Of course, you're still saying "dad" and you've stopped saying "neee" and started saying "nooooo!" And you little nudge! Do you know what you did to your mama? The one who loves you like crazy and would do anything for you? You got mad at me one day and clenched your little hands, shook and screamed "MAMA!!!!!!" You never say mama so of course I was surprised and said "You did not say my name in vain! Wait - you said mama! Wait - you did not just say my name in vain!" And you know what you did? You took a deep breath, clenched your little hands, shook and screamed "MAMA!!!!!!!!!!!" It was like Stanley Kowalski out of Street Car Named Desire! Just change my name for "STELLA!!!!!" haha! You dance and run and do happy feet! Oh and the kisses! You give me kisses and it makes me smile! Buddy - I love you! I love you like crazy and look forward to every change you make! You little nut!
Letter to my Little Man just before his 1 yr. Birthday (9-9-08): I think I start all of my posts with "Oh my ...." and this is no different! Oh my amazing little boy! You're my little boy now! You're just not a baby anymore - well - not like you used to be! :) You are growing into your big boy face and it's just amazing! Amazing! Can I say that again? AMAZING!!! You make me want to jump up and sing! How funny is that? Can you just picture me jumping around and singing all because of you growing into your big boy face? I bet you can!!! So, you're birthday is fast approaching. What has this first year been like for you? I can only imagine it's been a year full of maybe a bit of fear, a lot of curiosity and amazement, and just being. Being you. You are wonderful! Gosh I love you! So let me tell you what this first year has been like for me. The year started with so much fright on my part! Am I doing it right? Am I holding you properly? Feeding you properly? Loving you properly? Then that moved into "wow - did you see that?" You do stuff each day that makes me love you more. In the beginning, it could have been as simple as a yawn, then a smile, then looking me right in the eyes and smiling, and then gaining strength and weight! And then the crawling, mobility and walking! Oh buddy!!! Gosh - I could go on and on! You started walking a few weeks ago, but obviously thought crawling was better, but this weekend, I don't know happened, but you just decided crawling is for the birds! I was sitting here, just doing whatever, and you came walking up to me and your attitude!! LOL - it was all "Oh yeah - I've been doing this for ages and am so bored by the fact that you think this is cool!" But I've got your number!!! You walked me to the elevator and you let your guard down - you were big smiles and squeals of excitement!!! I know you little man - you're my son!!! So now that we are hitting 1 yr, what do I want for you? Oh Ronan - I want to give you so much love and kindness! I want to make your world safe! I want you to be able to run and play. I've been working on more playdates for you, so you can have some buddies! You're such a social little trooper! :) If I could just wrap you up and hold you tight all day long - I sure would! I love you son - I love you!
Letter to my Little Man on his 9 mos. Birthday (6-21-08): Oh my sweetheart, you are now 9 mos old! How can you be 9 mos old? You are not the same baby I brought home! You are hilarious and so fun! You are crawling like a demon now! Heck - you are doing more than crawling - you are cruising around the furniture and walking your little cart everywhere! You walk your little cart around the building hallway, up the street, in my office courtyard - shees - you are everywhere everyone wants to be. You're so proud of yourself too! The people in the neighborhood know you so well. I hear "Ronan!!! My man!!!" All the time and wonder "who is that person and how does he know my child?" You're so social. You love chatting with the neighbors and smiling. You're just a good baby. You play really well on your own. You're just so darn independent. When dad's busy in the kitchen, you're busy in the front room figuring out this toy from that! And when you want one of us to play with you, you just show up, and we can't help but play with you! Yesterday, you had one of your toys and you were just twisting it around and looking at it this way and that. I sat down with you and I put it in my mouth and shook it, then gave it back to you. You laughed so hard and then you know what you did? You put it back in my mouth! YOU put it back in MY mouth! How amazing is that? You are 9 mos old buddy! Sometimes, you just start chatting away in your baby talk and I often wonder what you are talking about. Do you know that your first word was "Dad"! That's so not fair!!!! You little jerk. :) I guess it's only fair considering your daddy does such a good job of taking care of you. Finally, you are a nut! You love being scared! Yesterday morning, you were in your bouncer and I came sneaking around the corner and then jumped out and went "ARGH!!!!!" You jumped and then started jumping up and down, waving your arms, and screaming with laughter!!! It was so funny! I did it again and you did the same thing! Everytime I went around the corner, you would look for me, waiting for me to scare you again! Baby boy - I love you! I just love you! You're a true joy and I'm so very thankful you've joined our family.
Letter to my Little Man on his 6 mos. Birthday (3-21-08): Well my little man, you are 6 mos old now! How does that feel? What's it like? I see you playing with your toys and being so serious. You are truly amazing! You're up on all 4's now, rocking back and forth, trying so hard to crawl! It's so cute. When you really want something, you drop down on your belly and arms and do the army low crawl to get when you want. Even though you aren't crawling yet, you are definitely getting all over the place! Wow - you are here, there and everywhere! And then you do this cute break dancing move to spin around. Tonight, you just talked and talked and talked! We were on your tummy time blanket and you decided that you wanted to climb all over me! I love that! It's like playing with a little monkey! Such a funny little monkey! You're eating solids now. You've had some really yummy veggies and a few fruits. You've had peas, rutabagas, green beans, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes - shees - what veggie haven't you had? You really love them. We make your food for you and boy it tastes good! You make the silliest "mmmmmmmmmmmmmm" sounds and if we don't feed you fast enough - oh my goodness baby - you just give us the grief! You've started to go through an easily startled phase. If someone comes up to you and makes crazy faces and scary loud noises, you get the funniest look on your face, lower lip hanging out, and then you just let it out! Boy, can you scream. The other night, your daddy was making something yummy for me and had to use the blender. You were so upset about it! You cried and cried! I carried you in to the Kitchen to watch what your daddy was doing. You seemed to calm down a bit, but were definitely still nervous. Baby - life isn't easy and it can be scary. Your daddy and I are here to try to help you through it. Another thing you are doing is jumping like a little monkey madman! Buddy - you jump in your jumperoo, you jump on mama's lap, you jump on daddy (hop on pop), and if you could, you'd jump on Max too! Honey - you are my sweet baby. I don't know what I would do without you and your daddy! It's funny because we never thought that a baby would change our lives as much as it has but for the better! Your daddy is so good with you! He plays with you every day and makes sure you get good sleep! Because I have to work, I try to do as much with you as possible. In the morning, I get up with you and get you dressed in the cutest outfits I can find! Sometimes I feed you, and other times, I just want to snuggle you! When I get home at night, I just hug you so hard! Just so hard! We have our dinner together. I love giving you yummy dinner! Afterwards, I give you a bath. You love bath time! It's so fun to play in the tub, isn't it? After the bath, I give you a nice warm bottle. Buddy - you can barely stay awake to drink your bottle by this time! There's nothing better than a snuggly baby, cuddled in my arms, slowly falling alseep! You're such a good sleeper! This afternoon, we took a nap together and you were so warm! Well, that's it I guess. I'm not that interesting tonight, am I? Just know that you are loved! So so so loved! You just keep on growing wee man! In no time at all, you'll be so much bigger than your mama! I love you honey!
Letter to my Little Man: I wanted to send you a little letter little man. You are so important to your daddy and me. We love you so much and can't get enough of your smile! We're goofy, dumb parents who'll make so many mistakes! We won't know what to do so many times, but that doesn't mean we'll love you any less. This is such a learning experience for the whole family. We definitely don't know everything! Cut us some slack sometimes. We'll share what we know and work hard to learn more to try to know everything, but it's not gonna happen. We'll love you no matter what! No matter what! Let me say that again - NO MATTER WHAT! You are our lovebug and there are going to be times when you do dumb things and when you hate us, but you know what wee man? We're going to love you NO MATTER WHAT! :) You know what? You won't know everything when you think you do and that's ok - because - well see above! Our goal for parenting you is to help you make your way and find your path. We don't want to force you onto a path, but rather, give you guidance and loving, soft pushes onto a path. And finally for tonight (I'm very tired), I love your daddy so much! He's so good and kind. You couldn't have a better daddy - you just couldn't, so be good to him! He'll have loads to teach you and you need to try to listen to him. Well baby - we love you and we keep wanting to sneak into your room and wake you up to snuggle. Grow strong and happy and kind little man - grow.
